Wavelength with host Kelly Moran airs Mondays at 10 am on New Sounds Radio. Repeats throughout the week, including Wednesdays at 4 pm and Sundays at 12 pm. Pianist and recording artist Vicky Chow (Bang on a Can All-Stars, New Music Detroit) steps in for Kelly Moran to guest host this week’s episode.
Hear mostly ambient and mostly electronic music that creates intimate expansive aural spaces, with work from electroacoustic Canadian born/LA based artist, Sarah Davachi, a collaboration between German artist Alva Noto (aka, Nicolai Karsten) and Japanese pianist Ryuichi Sakamoto, and a tune by the American musician/producer Liz Harris, otherwise known as Grouper.
Listen to a piece by American composer and visual artist Tristan Perich, his “Telescope,” where active rhythmic 1-bit electronics contrast with slowly evolving sonic harmonies created by wind instruments. (Have you heard the album-length work that Perich wrote for Vicky Chow, called “Surface Image,” scored for piano and 40 channel 1-bit electronics?) There’s also music from Montreal-based composer France Jobin, along with music from NY-based DJ Nicolas Jaar and a tune from Aphex Twin.
Also, hear music from London-based Venezuelan music producer and DJ, Arca, along with a song by a band from Portugal called Paus. Listen to music from Pulitzer Prize-winning artist Kendrick Lamar, along with music by UK-based rapper and poet Kate Tempest. Then, hear recent music by American producer and electronic musician Jlin, and music by experimental producer Elysia Crampton. Plus, hear "beatjazz" from Detroit-based Onyx Ashanti, and more.
